Man Attacks Director Michael Bay On The Set Of TF4

Every once and awhile in this life, you come across a phrase or sentence you never thought anyone would have to say (or in this case type). Today is such a day for me as I relay the following to you: some guy in Hong Kong attacked Michael Bay on set of  Transformers: Age Of Extinction with an air conditioning unit.

Sounds like I’m joking. I should be joking.

I’m not joking.

Early reports on this incident had stated that Bay had been attacked by two brothers, but this information proved to be false and Paramount was quick to clear things up and offer an official story. Bay’s assailant (described as probably on drugs), who had already been a nuisance to a handful of crew members earlier that day rushed onto the set and swung the air conditioner (odd weapon choice, but you work with what you have at hand) directly at the director’s head. Bay was able grab the unit and wrestle it away from his attacker at which point set security stepped in took control of the situation. When the police arrived they also had to tussle with the man as well as two other people with him and all three individuals were in the end arrested.

One has to wonder what was going through that guy’s head. Perhaps in his altered state he thought the air conditioner was a little Autobot and he and Breezy (had to name the little guy something, didn’t I?) just wanted to go over and give pointers to Mr. Bay on making the film better. Just like they say at the end of the Tootsie Pop commercial, “The world may never know.”

So what do you think of all this foolishness? Let us know in the comments below.

‘Thor: The Dark World’ predicted to strike lightning at box office

Looks like the box office figures for the next Marvel movie have been nailed down, and by a rather powerful hammer.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, tracking has started for how much the supehero sequel Thor: The Dark World is going to gross on its opening weekend, and it’s nothing short of gangbusters. The reported figure by Disney’s studio rivals has been that of $75 million or higher, which would surpass the first film’s numbers of about $65 million with ease, and could be in the running for one of the biggest openings in history for the month of November. On top of that, it would continue Disney/Marvel’s winning streak of success, which was extended earlier this year with Iron Man 3’s barrage of broken records. Thor: The Dark World will open domestically in three weeks on November 8.

Seeing that the real question is not if but rather how much this will be successful, there are factors here that are still worth pondering over to pinpoint how well this film will really do. For one, ever since The Avengers became the gargantuan smash hit it is today, popular interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has increased significantly, which should amount to subsequent Disney/Marvel doing great business for the rest of the forseeable future. While the massive success of Iron Man 3 can be considered proof of this, it should be noted that the Iron Man franchise has three standalone films over a span of five years, and the rest of the core Avengers team members have only had one film each that were nowhere near the juggernaut numbers of ol’ Shell-head. Saying that, though, if we were to use the logic of the MCU’s popularity growing more and more and consider how Iron Man’s sequels have been making more money than the last, then there’s a good chance that Thor: The Dark World could be bigger than we think. Besides, the film looks fantastic, so it’s got that going for it as well.

What do you guys think? What’s your prediction of Thor: The Dark World‘s opening weekend total? Do you have your own theories as to how much money this is going to make? Post your thoughts in the comments below.

11th Doctor Tardis Regeneration confirmed?

By now, we are all aware that Matt Smith’s 11th Doctor will soon be regenerating into number 12, played by Peter Capaldi. We also know that the Regeneration will be featured in the Christmas episode at the end of the year. As always, speculation turned to what will cause the regeneration and where the regeneration will take place.

It seems we may now answer. In the latest issue of DWM, current showrunner Steven Moffat has said, on the subject of regeneration;

“Pretty soon will arrive and he’ll be whisked off to begin the trip of a lifetime, probably wondering what it will be like, where it will take him, and how long it will last. And about then, Matt Smith will be standing in his TARDIS for the very last time, with his eyes on the studio door – because about to step through is a Scottish actor, dressed as him.”

Not only is that a pretty definite confirmation, it also alludes to David Tennant’s final moments on the Who set which were quite similar.

I expect, if this comes to pass many fans will have a problem with the idea of another TARDIS regeneration considering every New Who change has done so. I however, don’t have a problem with this. The TARDIS is the most intimate setting for the Doctor and it feels naturally this is where he would be most comfortable dying and being reborn (if he has the chance to get to the TARDIS that is). Also, unlike the last two recent regenerations the TARDIS set has changed significantly therefore it feels different this time.

On the transition, Moffat has also said;

It’s utterly bonkers! He still thinks he’s Matt Smith, but he looks like he’s Peter Capaldi. He’s adjusting to who he is. It’s a transitional phase.

This sounds pretty cool and it excites me that the 12th Doctor will still act like the 11th before we see the 12th develop. To do this, it feels natural that it should take place in the Tardis.

But what say you? Is another TARDIS regeneration an example Moffat’s tendency to retread? Would you like to see it happen elsewhere?

Is Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Noah’ Hitting Rough Tides With Paramount?

Darren Aronofsky, the man known for mesmerizing his audiences into a state of depression with films like Requiem For a Dream and Black Swan, may end up being in a depressed state himself soon enough.

Aronofsky’s next film Noah might be in hot water with Paramount, the studio behind the 2014 epic. Noah is currently going through test screenings with multiple audiences in Arizona and California (particularly those of Jewish and Christian faiths), which has supposedly resulted in “troubling reactions.”

While Paramount vice chairman Rob Moore has said that they hope to produce “the one version of the movie that Darren is overseeing,” sources like The Hollywood Reporter have stated that Paramount and Aronofsky are battling over who has final cut over the $125 million budgeted production.

Now, I’m a huge fan of Aronofsky’s work. The man knows how to beautifully craft stories of real human fears, from the horrors of drug abuse in Requiem for a Dream to the psychological torment of creative expectations in The Wrestler Black Swan. He knows how to take the ugliest of material and create something darkly gorgeous out of it, no matter how grimy or insidious the concept is. That’s why his decision to make a film about Noah confuses me. Of all the grand scale biblical stories, he decides to turn the one about a dude putting animals on a boat into a major studio epic?

So, it doesn’t surprise me that much that Paramount is nervous about this production. They’ve sunk a pretty large sum of money into this production and their main audience of religious folks don’t seem to responding well to it. $125 million is a lot to invest in for a movie about Noah’s Ark and it’s natural to be anxious about it’s potential success. That being said, I still have faith in Aronofsky’s talents as a director given his track record. Even my least favorite film of his The Fountain has a lot of visual beauty to it. So having him keep final cut is still a worthy risk to take, especially when you have a cast like features the likes of Russell Crowe, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Hopkins to entice people enough.

So, will Aronofsky’s vision be realized? Should Paramount be worried? Will this end up being a secret prequel to Evan Almighty? Post your own answers/thoughts in the comments below!

‘Paranormal Activity’ Spinoff ‘The Marked Ones’ Trailer Spooks Its Way Online

Paranormal Activity 4 sucked – I don’t think I’m out of line nor am I alone in that opinion. It was incredibly disappointing because I loved the first one so much, tolerated the second and really loved the third one. The fact that the directors of Paranormal Activity 3 returned for the fourth was really exciting to  me – and then I tried watching it. Truth be told, I have yet to finish the fourth film because I was so bored and let down by it.

All of that is beside the point since the new trailer for the Paranormal Activity “spinoff,” Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones, has surfaced online. Call it what you want, but this looks like a glorified sequel to me. The film does not look as though it follows any side character from any of the previous films or even someone marginally related to the people from the previous films. Instead, it takes the mythology of its predecessors and throws in some cameos from the poor souls in the original movies to create an entirely new timeline- we’ll call in a ‘spinquel.’

The trailer is your run of the mill Paranormal Activity type trailer – loud noises, demon voices, people flying through the air with the help of an unseen force – business as usual for Toby and his friends. This time around, the demon is haunting a young man and his friends do some research only to find the tragic stories of Katie and her sister and realize that the same thing is happening here.

The biggest difference from the previous films is that rather than the characters trying to MacGyver through the situation by adhering a camera to whatever real world object they can find to capture spooky activity in their home, the characters are capturing some the supernatural activity all around town. There’s an abundance of gang members getting launched into the air, car windows exploding and people getting attacked in cars. I have to say at the very least I’m a little more interested than I was after I shut Paranormal Activity 4 off prematurely, but I’m still not entirely optimistic.

Without spoiling anything, the way this fits into the series is a bit confusing to me at the same time based on a single shot in the trailer. I might need to watch some of the movies over again, but something didn’t seem like it made sense to me if this is supposed to take place after what happened with Katie and her sister as adults. I guess we will find out for sure when it hits theaters January 3rd. Check out the trailer here.

What do you think of the trailer for Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones? Do you like the Paranormal Activity franchise? What one is your favorite/least favorite?

Infestation: The Grand Finale Video

Well, it had to happen at some point, and it actually took us a month to finally come to grips with it. The end of Fantastic Fest means two things: 1.) The subsiding of OneOfUs.Net’s Infestation feature (for now) and 2.) TOTAL FUCKING MAYHEM.

The closing night party for Fantastic Fest has a reputation for being…a bit wild. But this year involved ambulances blaring Metallica, shots of whiskey accompanied by face slaps, and stuntmen on fire!

Plus, you know, this happened…

Oliver Stone Has a Dream: To make M.L.K. Foxxy

“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and go to the theater and watch my movies and say: ‘We hold these films to be amazing; all films are not created equal.’

I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former movie goers, and the sons of former popcorn eaters will be able to sit down together on the couch of movie night.

I have a dream that one day even the city of Hollywood, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will allow me to make Martin Luther King Foxxy” – Not Oliver Stone

Greetings OOU.netties! (I decided to switch it up), It seems that Oliver Stone, director of a diverse set of films from the likes of Platoon to Savages wants to create a foxy duo with foxy Jamie Foxx (can I say foxy one more time? It just sounds so sexy). The Wrap wrap-ports that:

“DreamWorks acquired the rights to King’s story in 2009 along with the rights to his “I Have a Dream” speech. In April 2011, the company decided to team up with Warner Bros., which had been developing its own MLK movie with Salem, who spent three years doing research and interviews to inform his screenplay.”

It is also said that:

“Steven Spielberg will produce for DreamWorks along with Suzanne de Passe, Madison Jones and Sam Nappi, while several members of the King family are expected to serve as executive producers on the project.”

Hm, this is another headscratcher. It seems that there will indeed be TWO Martin Luther King films. This one, and one by The Bourne Supremecy director Paul Greengrass, which has Forest Whitaker set to star. (I wonder who would win in a staring contest pie eating contest) Let’s first talk about Oliver Stone as a director.

Our Buddy Ollie Stone has an interesting taste in projects. Platoon, is a serious drama about the Vietnam War, staring Oscar ‘WINNING’ former cocaine addict actor Charlie Sheen (was that joke still relevant?). The film itself is a classic, and although some may say that it was overrated, I personally found it to be compelling. Later down his career, we got Natural Born Killers that seems to glorify violence and sociopaths, and is seriously really weird. I still enjoyed it, but when watching two psychopaths go about a killing spree with crazy uses of green screen and laugh tracks make my head spin. So yeah, kind of a big jump in style. (dat Hiesenburg Blue Sky) And now he wants to make a Martin Luther King movie? Maybe the people that assassinated him were the Grandfathers of the characters in Killers. Regardless, it’s not a bad choice per say, it’s just a bizarre one. Who knows, maybe he’ll surprise us all and it will end up being a’ tour de force!’

As for the actor choice, I’m not completely sold. It’s not that he’s a bad actor, it’s just when I see M.L.K., he just has this sweet cuddliness to him. Honestly, Michael J. Fox Jamie Foxx (I keep misspelling his name by adding an extra Parkinson’s Disease. *yikes*) does have that kind of humbleness to him. In Django, yeah sure he was a slave, but even in a role where he is supposed to be submissive, he has the ambition for revenge and freedom. This is the opposite vibe of who M.L.K. is. Sure, he was preachy to say the least, but he just seems like a reall sweet guy, and Forest Whitaker can pull that off. Also, when I say ‘To make M.L.K. Foxxy”, I mean that both literally and figuratively (I tend to do that a lot). Simply put, Jamie Foxx just seems too pretty to be having the dream. And now I say foxy one more time, and pack my soapbox away, and walk down the path of shame.

So what do you think OOUies? Who would win in a pie eating contest? What do you think of these styles? How many times did I say foxy? Comment below, let One of Us know!
