What is Mech?

Ready to be frightened?

As if current designer drugs weren’t terrifying enough…

What is it about someone telling you not to do something that our first question is, wait, what is it?

“Mech” according to the website www.don’tdomech.com is “hands down, the worlds most dangerous drug. I’ve never seen anything like it.” It can cause heightened senses of smell and touch, a substantial increase in strength and muscle mass, increased sexual arousal, and has been described by users as “steroids meet ecstasy”. Buuutttt….

On May 30th at 3:47am, a male, mid 20’s arrived into the Emergency ward delirious and complaining of severe stomach pains.   When medical staff tried to treat him, he went into a fit of rage destroying expensive medical equipment.  While trying to subdue him, four staff were seriously injured.  Police on duty at Royal Melbourne Hospital were called to the scene.  Bath salts and a speed overdose were suspected, but autopsy has confirmed Mech was present in his system.  A jagged metallic structure was excised from his abdomen, the size of a softball.  Doctors are still trying to determine what the metallic structure is made of.

Witnesses say the man seemed “possessed” and was speaking incoherently.  The scene was described as “gruesome”.  The victims body was said to be covered in open lesions.  All four medical staff remain in stable but serious condition.

Now, before you go locking your kids up in their rooms, or alternately, tracking down your local drug dealer for a ‘taste’, know that this is indeed viral marketing for …….  something. It looks like sci-fi with a touch of body horror but is it a movie, a tv show, a comic book…what?

Don’t Do Mech – PSA from Mech Free Partnership on Vimeo.

Along with this PSA video, there’s a bunch of info up at the website but nothing that tells us directly what it’s actually gonna be. Perhaps you can figure it out. If you have any leads, leave ’em here in the comments. I’ll say this much, they’ve got our attention.

Born in the wilds of northern Virginia, in 1992 Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas, where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar management. An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free, by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal”, turned into a full time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. They built the site Spill.com, adding multiple podcasts and animated features, to no small amount of success. During this time, a fortuitous friendship sprung up between Chris and young Brian Salisbury, who was also a local film critic, and they merged their forces of will, and their laundry list of ideas for shows, to eventually build this paradise you see before you.
