I MAY DESTROY YOU TV SERIES REVIEW
Creator and Star Michaela Coel coming off the success of a Netflix series (“Chewing Gum”), writes and stars in a HBO series set in the UK. Arabella (Cole) is a young and celebrated writer with rapidly approaching deadlines. Taking a break from the overwhelming workload, Arabella and friends hit the town and party hard. She wakes up the next day with only vague and horrific memories of being attacked at a nightclub. Arabella with the help of her friends Terry (Weruche Opia) and Kwame (Paapa Essiedu) recovers the memories of the evening, and she goes down a road that involves coming to terms with trauma, dealing with grief, and the many ways human beings are connected in the age of a 24/7 social media feed. Bradly and Santi discuss the difficulty of watching trauma for the sake of powerful storytelling, and praise the courage of the cast while Alex and Jena get personal and discuss how sharing unspeakable experiences through art can result in feeling seen and being heard.
