QUEEN & SLIM MOVIE REVIEW
Ever had one of those first dates where it’s just NOT clicking and is consistently on the edge of becoming outright unpleasant? Imagine then finding out you’re stuck with that person for the foreseeable future. This is the situation Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith’s characters find themselves in when the film gets going. Pulled over by a traffic cop, the situation quickly escalates as the overt racism and profiling take front and center stage. This leads to a tussle and to their shock, having to kill the cop just to save their own lives. Seeing the situation for what it is (although with some amount of consternation over that point with our critics) they see their only way out is to go on the run. Queen & Slim has certainly garnered comparisons to films such as Bonnie & Clyde, but we found that to be a loose comparison at best. So what type of film is it? Deadly serious? Mismatched buddy road comedy? Romance? A message film? Kinda all of those, but not always in an organic way. Listen to Chris, Marco, and Squeak give their reports.
