The Irishman Movie Review

THE IRISHMAN MOVIE REVIEW

Martin Scorsese and Netflix have teamed up to bring you one of the most ambitious movies in both of their respective catalogs with The Irishman. Adapted from Charles Brandt’s book I Heard You Paint Houses, the film follows the life of infamous mafia hitman Frank Sheeran (Robert DeNiro). Following his traumatic experience serving in World War II, Frank’s life is turned around when a lawyer named Bill Buffalino (Ray Romano) introduces Frank to his brother Russell (Joe Pesci). Russell, who runs the northeast Pennsylvania crime family, begins hiring Frank out for increasingly dirty jobs until their paths eventually cross with the even more infamous mafia boss Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino). The rest of the movie chronicles their lives working together leading to the eventual (and still unsolved) disappearance of Hoffa. But how involved was Frank, Hoffa’s bodyguard, in this disappearance?

Much has been said about this film even before it hit theaters. From its epic run time of three and a half hours to the revolutionary de-aging technology used on the cast, nearly every review is dripping with glowing praise. Marco and newcomer Nathan found theaters playing the film near them so we could get a review out prior to its Netflix release next week. With Justin also sitting in so they have someone to recount the tale of their viewing, was this $159 million dollar epic worth the investment? Or is this film about to get whacked by Marco and Nathan? Find out in this appropriately epic length review.
