MAN ON FIRE SERIES REVIEW
After a disastrous last mission, a man of violence has put down his gun and retired until a friend from his past asks him to do one last job. John Creasy doesn’t just see an assignment, he sees a chess board. Confused? Then you are already three moves behind and he’s taken out all your guys. Checkmate! Netflix presents Man on Fire, the TV series adaptation of the 1980 novel, made previously into a 2004 Denzel Washington film (and a less well known one in 1987 with Scott Glenn). In this telling, John Creasy (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) is wasting away, lost in his miserable memories of lost friends and broken promises. His friend Paul (Bobby Cannavale) pulls him out of his solitude to give him a seemingly pretty basic security gig in Brazil. But all is not well in paradise and an explosive mistake leaves Paul and his entire family except his daughter Poe (Billie Boullet) dead . With Poe as the sole witness, her word could unravel a conspiracy that leads to the most powerful man in Brazil. From tactical mercenary to bullet blasting bodyguard. John Creasey will use his set of skills to unravel the mystery, get revenge, and save Poe. Bradly, Jena, and Felix discuss the popular character and talk about the Tony Scott film of the same name. They also gush about the deceased director’s previous works that should still be watched and admired. But don’t worry: they do actually discuss the particulars of this Netflix series and the admirable choreography, fight scenes, and some character work by the leads.
