MARGO’S GOT MONEY TROUBLES SERIES REVIEW
From prolific showrunner David E. Kelly comes a new Apple TV series Margo’s Got Money Troubles based on the novel of the same name by Rufi Thorpe. Margo (Elle Fanning) is an aspiring writer and college student who becomes pregnant after a brief affair with her married literature professor, Mark (Michael Angarano). Despite Mark’s objections, Margo chooses to have the baby, so she drops out of college to find work. Struggling to make ends meet, Margo makes the decision to start an OnlyFans page. At first, Margo hides this from her friends and family, but as her online fame grows, the truth comes out. This spurs Mark and his domineering mother (Marcia Gay Harden) to seek full custody of the child. If Margo wants to keep her baby, she will have to prove to the court that she can provide her child with a safe, healthy environment, but that isn’t easy when you are a sex worker, and your dysfunctional parents (Michelle Pfeiffer and Nick Offerman) are a former Hooters waitress, and a retired wrestler with a history of drug addiction. Two of our reviewers, Frank and Eoin, worship at the shrines of Saints Kelly and Pfeiffer while Marco is an agnostic. However, all three of them agreed that despite the series’ subject matter and heavy themes, this is a genuinely warm and funny show, one that should appeal to a wide, mainstream audience, not only fans.

Marco Noyola (Digital Noise, Highly Suspect Reviews, Screener Squad, Audio Editor)
By day, Marco is a mild-mannered office worker, but by night he is a mild-mannered movie watcher. He does other mild-mannered stuff too.
“I’m not a film critic. I just play one on the Internet.”

Frank Calvillo (Highly Suspect Reviews, Screener Squad, What Ever Happened to Bette & Joan?, Hollywood Royalty)
Born and raised in South Texas, Frank currently lives in Austin and has been in love with movies ever since his father showed him some Three Stooges shorts when he was five years old. Today he loves all kinds of film, regardless of era, country, budget or genre. He believes every film has an audience and is at least one person’s favorite movie. After writing for Sight & Sound and Slackerwood, he now writes for Cinapse where his increasingly random taste in all flavors of cinema (from Rashomon to Mars Attacks!) continues to thrive. His ultimate goal is to write a script for his boyhood crush, Michelle Pfeiffer.

Eoin Daly
Born and raised in Dublin Ireland, Eoin currently lives in London and has been an avid film lover from as far back as they can remember. Eoin enjoys going to the cinema weekly regardless of the film: new, old, or the most random title. They have no preconceived notions when taking in a new film. They tend to look for the good in any film they watch and will always love the art form. They are a major fan of actress-led cinema and will never apologize for this one film bias.
