Screener Squad: Shrinking Season 3

SHRINKING SEASON 3 REVIEW

From prolific creator and showrunner Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town, Ted Lasso) comes the third season of Apple TV‘s hit Shrinking. When we first met licensed therapist Jimmy Laird (Jason Segel) he was a grief-stricken widower and single father spiraling out of control, lost in a haze of substance abuse and one night stands. Over the course of the show, we’ve seen Jimmy help numerous patients work past their trauma, and come to terms with their emotional issues; but is Jimmy able to do the same for himself? Season 3 finds Jimmy on the precipice of multiple life altering events; his boss and mentor Paul (Harrison Ford) is preparing to retire due to worsening symptoms of Parkinson’s, and Jimmy is about to become an ’empty nester’ when his daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell) leaves for college. Even Jimmy’s former patient, friend, and housemate Sean (Luke Tennie) is planning to move out, leaving Jimmy alone in his own home for the first time in years. In fact, everyone in Jimmy’s circle is contemplating major life changes, meanwhile, Jimmy can’t even bring himself to start dating again. Our reviewers Eoin and Marco take turns on the couch analyzing this latest (but not last) season and ponder whether the show could end at Season 3, or if more sessions are required.

By day, Marco is a mild-mannered office worker, but by night he is a mild-mannered movie watcher. He does other mild-mannered stuff too.

Eoin Daly

Born and raised in Dublin Ireland, Eoin currently lives in London and has been an avid film lover from as far back as they can remember. Eoin enjoys going to the cinema weekly regardless of the film: new, old, or the most random title. They have no preconceived notions when taking in a new film. They tend to look for the good in any film they watch and will always love the art form. They are a major fan of actress-led cinema and will never apologize for this one film bias.
