STARFLEET ACADEMY SERIES REVIEW
It’s the 32nd century and in an effort to restore themselves to their former glory, a shattered Starfleet relaunches Starfleet Academy, which had been replaced by the more bellicose War College. Former Starfleet Captain Nahla Ake (Holly Hunter) has been appointed Chancellor of Starfleet Academy, which will operate alongside the still existing War College; effectively establishing two rival fraternities on the same campus. The college setting and young cast make this a more YA oriented entry in the Trek franchise, but there’s still plenty of room for familiar kinds of Trek stories involving exploration, diplomacy, ethics, space battles, and sciencing one’s way out of a problem. We also get a new threat in the form of vicious pirate Nus Braka (a scene stealing Paul Giamatti) who has history with both Ake and first year cadet, Caleb Mir (Sandro Rosta). The series has drawn a lot of negativity and monetizable outrage from the usual dark corners of the internet, but our reviewers Marco, Lewayne and Felix think you should watch the show and form your own opinion. Rather than get into heavy spoilers, their review focuses more on the characters, as well as the themes and lofty ideals that made them love Star Trek in the first place. Listen to the review to find out whether they plan to enroll for a second semester of Starfleet Academy or drop out.

By day, Marco is a mild-mannered office worker, but by night he is a mild-mannered movie watcher. He does other mild-mannered stuff too.
“I’m not a film critic. I just play one on the Internet.”

Lewayne White (Screener Squad)
Lewayne’s earliest memories are of watching movies and reading comics, which instilled in him a sense of wonder, a vivid imagination, and unrealistic expectations. It also means he spends a lot of time watching movies, writing scripts for them, and trying to get them made. He lives in the middle of middle America after landing there as a child, and has remained there mainly because he hates packing.

R.Felix Finch (Screener Squad)
A native of Sacramento, California, and having spent his post-pubescent years in Virginia, Nevada, Texas, and New York, Felix now finds himself pursuing his Juris Doctor at Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia. Nothing is more calming to Felix than the comfort of Chaos, as his time in professional wrestling and on other podcasts has demonstrated, and Felix brings a love for the most absurd outings in the realms of cinema, finding his escape in things such as the overly complex world of Jupiter Ascending and perusing the unbelievably low-budget offerings of Tubi, which Felix is fully convinced is a Psi-Op. In addition to finding Felix here on OneOfUs.net, you can Check him out on TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube sharing his life in Law School as “TheBrokeLawStudent.”
