SHE DANCES MOVIE REVIEW
She Dances stars Steve Zahn as Jason, a divorced father who owns a successful whiskey distillery with his best friend and business partner, Brian (Ethan Hawke). They’re in the middle of negotiations to sell their company for a lot of money, when Jason receives a call from his ex-wife Deb, (Rosemarie DeWitt). A family emergency has come up, and Deb needs someone to go with their teenage daughter, Claire (played by Zahn’s real-life daughter Audrey Zahn) to an out of town dance competition. Eager to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Jason agrees to chaperone duty and leaves Brian to handle the business negotiations. Looking forward to some one-on-one time with his little girl, Jason plans the whole trip, but those plans immediately go out the window when Claire, who has a drivers license now, insists on doing the driving herself. Also, she’s brought along her dance partner and best friend, Kat (Mackenzie Ziegler, of Dance Moms fame), and neither girl has any interest in listening to Jason’s custom made daddy-daughter road trip playlist. What follows is part family drama, part fish out of water comedy, as Jason enters the world of competitive dancing. Fortunately, he’ll get some pointers from a few veteran dance moms and Audrey’s dance instructor Jamie (Sonequa Martin-Green, of Star Trek Discovery). Will Jason and Claire rekindle their relationship? Will Claire win the big competition? Will Jason and Brian sell the company? More importantly, will Jason finally figure out how to read a schedule and figure out which event space he needs to deliver the snacks to? Listen to our panel of judges Ian, Eoin, and Marco as they decide whether this new indy film deserves the big trophy or has to settle for a participation award.

“I’m not a film critic. I just play one on the Internet.”

Ian Butcher (Highly Suspect Reviews, Eye on the Prize, Breakfast Pub)
Moving all around the country growing up meant that there was only one constant in Ian’s life, the video store. Thus began a lifelong obsession with all things celluloid. While spending most of his origin story becoming a human IMDB, Ian came across a certain site called Spill.com, This discovery, combined with a need to move away from the pacific northwest and never look back, led Ian to drop out of film school and move to Austin. A general man about town, you can usually find Ian in a hole in the wall bar in east Austin, running around town with a camera pretending to be something of a filmmaker, or talking about all things movies here on OneOfUs.net and DoubleToasted.com.

Eoin Daly
Born and raised in Dublin Ireland, Eoin currently lives in London and has been an avid film lover from as far back as they can remember. Eoin enjoys going to the cinema weekly regardless of the film: new, old, or the most random title. They have no preconceived notions when taking in a new film. They tend to look for the good in any film they watch and will always love the art form. They are a major fan of actress-led cinema and will never apologize for this one film bias.
