Screener Squad: Only Murders in the Building Season 5

ONLY MURDERS IN THE BUILDING SEASON 5 REVIEW

After four seasons of murders in the building, you would think the titular building would be the least desirable apartment complex in all of Manhattan. Fortunately for fans of Only Murders in the Building, people are still dying to move into The Arconia, home of true crime podcasters Charles, Oliver, and Mabel (Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez). Last season ended with the murder of Lester (Teddy Coluca), the Arconia’s beloved doorman. Season 5 picks up right where we left off, with our intrepid sleuths picking through the alibis of the seemingly endless number of guest stars and celebrity cameos, any one of whom could be the murderer. In addition to the large ensemble of recurring characters, Season 5 introduces us to a bevy of new possible suspects, including a mob boss (Bobby Cannavale) and his jealous wife (Téa Leoni), the glad handing Mayor of New York (Keegan-Michael Peele), a pop singing superstar (Beanie Feldstein), a trio of shady billionaires (Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, and Renée Zellweger), Lester’s grieving widow (Dianne Wiest), and Lester’s replacement, the robot doorman LESTR (voiced by Paul Rudd). With the exception of our three leads, anyone could be murdered, or be the murderer, and this time the very fate of The Arconia itself is at stake. Oneofus put together our own trio of podcasting investigators, Eoin, Frank, and Marco, to autopsy the latest season of the hit show. Listen to the review to find out whether they gave it a thumbs up or a thumbs down… once they figure out where that missing thumb disappeared to.

Marco Noyola (Digital Noise, Highly Suspect Reviews, Screener Squad, Audio Editor)

By day, Marco is a mild-mannered office worker, but by night he is a mild-mannered movie watcher. He does other mild-mannered stuff too.
“I’m not a film critic. I just play one on the Internet.”

Eoin Daly

Born and raised in Dublin Ireland, Eoin currently lives in London and has been an avid film lover from as far back as they can remember. Eoin enjoys going to the cinema weekly regardless of the film: new, old, or the most random title. They have no preconceived notions when taking in a new film. They tend to look for the good in any film they watch and will always love the art form. They are a major fan of actress-led cinema and will never apologize for this one film bias.

Frank Calvillo (Highly Suspect Reviews, Screener Squad, What Ever Happened to Bette & Joan?)

Born and raised in South Texas, Frank currently lives in Austin and has been in love with movies ever since his father showed him some Three Stooges shorts when he was five years old. Today he loves all kinds of film, regardless of era, country, budget or genre. He believes every film has an audience and is at least one person’s favorite movie. After writing for Sight & Sound and Slackerwood, he now writes for Cinapse where his increasingly random taste in all flavors of cinema (from Rashomon to Mars Attacks!) continues to thrive. His ultimate goal is to write a script for his boyhood crush, Michelle Pfeiffer.
