MARVEL ZOMBIES SERIES REVIEW

The dead have risen… and they’ve got superpowers. Marvel Zombies shambles onto Disney Plus, expanding the fan-favorite What If…? episode that first teased this gruesome alternate Marvel universe. Inspired by the 2005 comic series by Robert Kirkman, the animated show imagines a world where a zombie virus infects Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, turning them into flesh-hungry monsters with cosmic-level abilities. A new generation of survivors—including Ms. Marvel, Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, Shang-Chi, Jimmy Woo, and Red Guardian—must band together to outwit zombified versions of Captain Marvel, Namor, Wanda Maximoff, and a slew of other recognizable faces (mostly recognizable if you’ve been avidly following the MCU post-Endgame). But, does the show live up to its promise of grotesque and action-packed horror? Does this series push Marvel animation deep enough into darker, bloodier territory to appeal to zombie fans? Alyssa, Christopher, and T.C. hole up in the One Of Us Bunker to discuss the MCU Zombie Apocalypse and decide if this show is worth surviving.

Alyssa Miller

Alyssa emerged from the trenches of Cleveland, Ohio in 1992 and travelled to Austin in 2014, where she resides now as a bar manager. She is a self-proclaimed horror aficionado with a background in writing analyses for Scriptophobic and reviews for Morbidly Beautiful. In her spare time, she also makes jewelry and rosaries of all persuasions, specializing in uranium glass and beading. She also enjoys music of all kinds, and has worked extensively with the punk and metal scene in Austin. Alyssa ‘s biggest achievement is creating and growing the Austin Ghoul Gang, a local group that gets together every 3-4 months to watch a weird movie and have some bands play. Ask her about her Creature from the Black Lagoon tattoo!

Christopher Ayres (Screener Squad)

Born and raised in the suburbs of Hinsdale, Illinois, Chris Ayres would constantly watch movies as a child, and that obsession has only grown over time, even attending Columbia Film School in Chicago during his last couple years of college. Whenever he’s not working his exhausting day job, he’s either watching as many movies as he can squeeze into his free time (preferably movies he’s never seen before due to a never-ending desire to expand his knowledge of the art form), or trying to turn people on to movies they haven’t seen that he thinks are worth their attention. You can find him on Bluesky, Facebook, Instagram and Letterboxd (look for AyresForce or AyresForceOne)
