INFESTATION: SXSW 2021 – ROUND 1
Even with this long-running festival being switched this year to virtual, there was still PLENTY of great film and television to see. Really taking advantage of the tech available, the folks at SXSW made it extremely accessible and easy to watch what you wanted. And watch we did: Chris and Bob get together to discuss the Norwegian comedy “Ninjababy”, the eco-horror of “Gaia”, the French-Haitian drama “Bantú Mama”, and the Barbara Crampton vampire film “Jakob’s Wife”. Watch the video and see what you should be putting on your ‘must see’ list when it comes out (probably later this year).

Christopher Lawrence Cox (Founder, Da Boss)
Born in the wilds of northern Virginia, in 1992 Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas, where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar management. An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal” turned into a full-time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. They built the site Spill.com, adding multiple podcasts and animated features, to no small amount of success. During this time, a fortuitous friendship sprung up between Chris and young Brian Salisbury, who was also a local film critic, and they merged their forces of will, and their laundry list of ideas for shows, to eventually build this paradise you see before you. If it weren’t for sad music and scary stories I wouldn’t be as well-adjusted and cheerful as I am today. Moonlighting as a musician off and on since adolescence, I am as big a fan of scores and needle drops as I am of slow zooms, production design, and third act exposition. Just about all of my screen time is spent on international horror, drama, and hour long episodic. Big fan of genre, and the biggest fan of supernatural horror and dark sci-fi with meaningful representation and narratives that use trauma, grief, and grace as more than surface-level content. Also, I read a ton of modern horror novels/comics and stan Matt Berry. In the before times I worked music and film festivals across the US and will hopefully return to that sometime in the future.
