30 COINS – SEASON 1 REVIEW
Created by and directed/written by cult favorite Spanish filmmaker Álex de la Iglesia, this new HBO horror series dives deep into Catholic esoterica and comes up with some of the best horror television in years. When a new and pretty rough priest comes to a small town bearing one of the 30 coins that Judas was paid to betray Jesus, paranormal shit starts happening all over the place and draws in the town’s reticent mayor and a more gung-ho local veterinarian. If it’s not bad enough that the coin itself seems to upset the nature of reality, there’s a secretive and sizable cult of baddies chasing it down to with nefarious magic and monsters to throw at the trio as well. Chris, Alex, and Neil take on this new series and exhort you to check it out for yourself.

Christopher Lawrence Cox (Founder, Da Boss)
Born in the wilds of northern Virginia, in 1992 Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas, where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar management. An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal” turned into a full-time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. They built the site Spill.com, adding multiple podcasts and animated features, to no small amount of success. During this time, a fortuitous friendship sprung up between Chris and young Brian Salisbury, who was also a local film critic, and they merged their forces of will, and their laundry list of ideas for shows, to eventually build this paradise you see before you. Neil Anderson (Screener Squad)
I first got hooked on movies when I saw Star Wars at a drive-in theater as a kid. Growing up in a small, rural town meant not having access to a lot of movies. In college, that all changed. I couldn’t get enough. I love it all — flicks, films, movies, and cinema. I still have that wide-eyed wonder of that kid watching movies from the back of a pick-up truck at the drive-in.
Alex Sullivan (Screener Squad)
This Alex. He Shy.
Fascinated by the countless worlds that can be visited by simply pressing “Play”, Alex finds himself awash in an endless stream of titles. Whenever a particularly strange title strikes his fancy, he becomes an enamored prophet of this new idea, spreading its good word to whomever will listen. Alex constantly works to improve his fluency in the universal language of cinema. Underneath his mellow facade, he’s a chihuahua, shaking with excitement to be a part of such a wonderfully diverse and welcoming community of voices that share his enthusiasm.
