Screener Squad: Waiting For The Barbarians

Waiting For The Barbarians Movie Review

In a fictional land just past the middle of nowhere lies an outpost maintained by an empire overseen by a peaceful idealist magistrate (Mark Rylance). The empire, growing paranoid of the natives, sends Colonel Joll (Johnny Depp) to investigate possible conspiracies of insurrection. After Joll burns the olive branch and implements a closed fist over the natives, the magistrate begins to question his duty to the empire and his allegiance to the barbarians. Bradly, Julien, and Harmoni discuss Mark Rylance’s (as always) strong performance, Johnny Depp’s obsession with quirky gimmicks, and whether or not a brief cameo by Robert Pattison gives away any clues of how he’ll portray the caped crusader.

DIRECTED BY: Ciro Guerra

STARRING: Johnny Depp, Mark Rylance, Robert Pattinson, Gana Bayarsaikhan, Greta Scacci, David Dencik, Sam Reid, Harry Melling, Bill Milner
