JAPAN SINKS: 2020 MINISERIES REVIEW
Ever wonder what an anime might look like if run by disaster director Roland Emmerich? Netflix presents the anime series directed by Pyeon-Gang Ho and Masaaki Yuasa (Devil Man CryBaby) based on the popular 1973 novel by Sakyo Komatsu, “Japan Sinks”. Japan is sinking. High School student and Track star Ayumu and little brother Gō must brave the elements to survive a Japan being slowing devoured by nature. Gō and Ayumi meet a variety of different characters, from good Samaritans to cult leaders. With all the chaos going on it’s far from certain who will live or die. Mindy, Dogget, and Bradly review the animation, discuss the success of anime on Netflix, and ponder the difference between surviving and living through grief and change.
