Guest of Honour Movie Review

GUEST OF HONOUR MOVIE REVIEW

This latest film from acclaimed writer/director Atom Egoyan is a curious puzzle box of a film. Recently released from prison, Veronica (Laysla De Oliveira) has been summoned by a priest (Luke Wilson) to discuss the funeral arrangements of her late father, Jim (David Thewlis). As Veronica recounts her memories, the film unspools into a series of nested flashbacks told from the perspectives of both father and daughter. What dark secret compelled Veronica to confess to a crime she didn’t commit, and what lengths will Jim go to in order to uncover the truth?

Due to its intricate structure, this was a tricky film to talk about without going into spoilers, but our honoured reviewers Adrian, Santiago, and Marco do their best. Listen to them discuss whether you should welcome this guest into your home, or show it the door.
