“Archive”, the new film from writer/director/production designer Gavin Rothery is a tale as old as time: Boy meets Girl, Boy loses Girl, Boy uploads Girl’s consciousness into a computer archive, Boy transfers Girl’s memories into a series of increasingly sophisticated Robots, Robot 2.0 gets jealous of sexy Robot 3.0, while Boy’s Corporate Overlords threaten to shut down Boy’s unauthorized, unethical, probably illegal, pet project.
This modestly budgeted indie will definitely remind you of other sci-fi movies, yet in spite of its limitations, it boasts high production values and better than average visual and practical effects. Our panel of eerily humanlike reviewers had a wide range of opinions on this one.
