THE FOREST OF LOVE – DEEP CUT SERIES REVIEW
Japanese writer/director Sion Sono is a special kind of wonderfully weird. If you enjoy the works of Takashi Miike but you’re thinking, I feel this could be even more insane, Sono might be for you. His film The Forest of Love was shortened from a 7 episode tv series, but Netflix, in unusual generosity to the unusual among us, has released the entirety this month. Based loosely at points (and shockingly closely at others) to the real story of serial killer Futoshi Matsunaga, the series is frustrating, insane, hysterical, deeply disturbing, and often all these things at once. Listen to Chris, Bradly, and Mindy break it down for you.
DIRECTED BY: Sion Sono
STARRING: Kippei Shiina, Shinnosuke Mitsushima, Kyoko Hinami, Eri Kamataki, Sei Matobu, Denden, Young Dais, Natsuki Kawamura, Yuzuka Nakaya, Dai Hasegawa
