A SECRET LOVE MOVIE REVIEW
When Terry Donahue was drafted into the Peoria Redwings (a team within the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League) in 1946, she thought she was living a dream come true. She never expected to find the love of her life, and she certainly never expected that love to be another woman. Yet that was exactly what happened, carrying on a secret relationship with Pat Henschel that has lasted over seven decades. Now with Terry’s Parkinson’s disease making living by themselves in Chicago increasingly difficult, the couple must make the big decision as to whether or not to return to their native Canada to live out their sunset years. Shot by Donahue’s great-nephew, this documentary provides a portrait of a groundbreaking lesbian couple struggling with end-of-life issues, and our reviewers Rose, Harmoni, and Mindy discuss whether this documentary is a home run, or ultimately strikes out.
