ATLANTICS MOVIE REVIEW
The Screener Squad is back to cover more international Oscar hopefuls with Netflix’s release of the Cannes Grand Prix winner Atlantics. The story follows a young girl named Ada (Mame Bineta Sane), who is in love with a construction worker named Souleiman (Ibrahima Traore), but is betrothed to a wealthy mogul named Omar (Babacar Sylla). After Souleiman and his coworkers are refused wages once again for their three months of work, they set sail on a boat to earn money in Spain. Shortly after, a weird illness spreads across the city of Dakar that directly affects their loved ones, including Ada. Saying anything more would spoil too much of this movie, but is that enough of a set-up to carry the story? Justin and Marco are here to discuss this acclaimed feature, but they may not exactly see eye to eye with the other critics.
