JOKER MOVIE REVIEW
Controversy tends to bring sales and that’s certainly appearing to be the case in the DC Comics kinda-sorta Joker origin story starring Joaquin Phoenix as the garishly painted killer. Here, in a pre-Batman time, he plays a failing clown for hire/stand-up who already is severely psychologically damaged and the mean streets of Gotham aren’t exactly helping him to find peace with the world. He takes care of his ailing mother (Frances Conroy) and dreams of appearing on his favorite talk show, The Rupert Pupkin…er Murray Howard Show (Robert DeNiro). But eventually things are gonna go violently sideways, obviously, and it’s an insinuation by his mother as to his real parentage that becomes a flashpoint for him as he goes from meek to murderous. We had a wide array of differing and strong opinions on this one and a big crew expressing them. Check out our deconstruction with Chris, Zach, Marco, Beau, and featuring Sammy “The Mexcellence” in his first Highly Suspect Review.
