THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE MOVIE REVIEW
Looking to give your child a gateway drug into Game of Thrones? Look no further than The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Set many years before the original movie, the story follows three lead Gelfling characters as they deal with the Skeksis who rule the land. Rian (Taron Egerton), a castle guard working under the Skeksis, seeks to clear his name after he is framed for a murder he didn’t commit. Brea (Anya Taylor-Joy), a Gelfling princess, is shown a vision that inspires her to investigate a mysterious symbol tied to a prophecy. Deet (Nathalie Emmanuel), a Gelfling from an underground dwelling clan, ventures to the surface world after seeing signs of a ‘darkening’ infecting the animals in her realm. All the while, the vile Skeksis plot to maintain their power and thwart our heroes at every turn. This is a wildly ambitious series from Netflix and the Henson company, as it has to both stay faithful to the original movie and be accessible to unfamiliar audiences. Did Justin, Julien, and Marco feel like it achieved this balance? Listen to their review here for what is certainly one of the most unique shows currently available to stream.
