You’d have to be living under a rock far from the internet to have not heard that Ben Affleck was going to be our new Batman in the upcoming Man of Steel sequel. It’s the casting news that almost unanimously sent a wave of hatred through the hearts of fans all over the world and the hits just keep on coming. Affleck has apparently been talking to Seinfeld creator Larry David about possibly taking a role in the sequel as one of the film’s main villains.
Keep in mind this is not a confirmation so much as it is just the new Batman musing whimsically about who he wants to be in Man of Steel sequel. The villain David has been rumored to play is Mr. Mxyzptlk from the Superman comics. Personally, I think it’s far more likely we’ll see Lex Luthor’s bald dome on screen and much less likely that Warner Bros would green-light the use of a villain you have to trick into saying his name backwards to defeat temporarily for such a landmark film. Then again, stranger things have happened. I mean, Affleck is our new Batman after all.
After all the outcry of Affleck’s casting I remain very indifferent about it all, but honestly I think I have to draw the line at this news- should it manifest itself into reality. The speculation is that Affleck has been extremely hands-on so far in the production and might just have the “umph” to get David into the film. If it happens, I suppose I’ll just have to wait and see footage to make any kind of judgment, but I’ll reserve the right to be extremely worried about the future of the Man of Steel sequel.
Would you like to see Larry David as a villain in the Man of Steel sequel? If not him then who? What villain(s) do you want to see? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
