It has been nearly two weeks since Rey Mysterio and World Wrestling Entertainment failed to come to terms on renewal of Rey’s contract. They both parted ways with little fanfare. Those who wondered about Mysterio’s future, or concerned with his well being didn’t have to wait long.
Rey came to an agreement to perform with the AAA promotion based in Mexico. Fans should recognize this promotion as another superstar that recently parted ways on not-so-friendly terms, Alberto El Patron (previously Alberto Del Rio), also has done a few shows with them in recent months. El Patron and Mysterio will team up with Myzteziz (previously Sin Cara I) at the AAA World Cup event on 05/23/2015. This world cup event, along with another appearance the week before are the only locked down dates as of right now. But more news shall come as AAA prepares booking its summer events.
As someone who respects Mysterio’s accomplishments, I’m left to ponder. Rey has had a laundry list of injuries over the majority of his WWE tenure. This could have been the perfect time for him to retire before those injuries could permanently impede his life outside of the ring. Do you feel that Mysterio will go on to prosper in AAA and other promotions? Or do you think that his prior injuries will start catching up to him and that he should exit the ring while his body isn’t too badly broken?
