THE GIRL BEFORE SERIES REVIEW

Based on the sexy thriller written by J. P. Delaney, The Girl Before is a character examination of the inner houses we call our souls and what sort of portraits we hang on the walls of our hearts. But it features plenty of long legs and chiseled abs as well. As the old saying goes, throw out anything in your life that doesn’t bring you joy. Jane (Played by Gugu Mbatha-raw) decides to leave her apartment of tragic memories and chaotic clutter behind and apply to live in a minimalist house built by the mysterious Edward (David Oyelowo). The application process is brutal and the rules of the house seem endless but Jane passes and begins life anew in the fully automated smart home. With Edward by her side she manages to bury her past but in doing so begins to dig up the memories of the house’s previous tenant : a woman named Emma (Jessica Plummer) who tragically died in the house just 3 years before. As Jane pieces together the similarities she shares with Emma she begins to worry if Emma’s tragic death was no accident but an inescapable future for the tenants of Edward’s house. Bradly, Rose, and Jena put on their detective caps, down a bottle of Lifetime‘s own white wine, and separate the red herrings from the red-handed in this HBO Max original miniseries.

Bradly Martin (Screener Squad, Eye on the Prize, Breakfast Pub)

Bradly Martin was born in the united states and grew up on a healthy diet of sports, films, and books. A rather shy lad who kept to himself, Bradly soon discovered the best way to know a person was to know what people liked. Throughout the years Bradly became a fan of many things and a fanatic of none. From Doctor Dre, to Doctor Strange and the who’s who of Whos. From Playstation to the Dreamcast and Marvel to DC. From LeBron James to James Bond and Lord of the Rings to Lord Palmerston (or Pitt the Elder if you agree with Wade Boggs) and is a huge fan of dad jokes and randomly obscure Simpsons references. Armed with a vast knowledge of comics, films, and pop culture. Bradly traveled the world making friends and sharing takes. As a young man Bradly married the love of his life young and grew older every year with each new child brought into the brood. If trends continue, Scientists predict that .2% of Canada (where Bradly and family reside) will be populated by Bradly’s children by the year 2029. You can hear him leading and listening to his favorite critics on the Screener Squad and Eye on the prize and maybe even provide some comments of his own.

Rose Mattox (Screener Squad, Eye On The Prize)

Originally hailing from Austin then Houston, Rose has been an avid movie and TV fanatic pretty much since birth. She spends spending her days watching Star Trek reruns, 60’s spy fiction, and Audrey Hepburn movies with her beloved minion (see: dog Riley). She also occasionally dabbles in comedy, screenwriting, as well as graphic and interior design. Rose has been contributing to One of Us since 2019 as a member of the Screener Squad, as well as making regular appearances on Eye on the Prize during awards season. She can be found on Twitter at @nightattheopera.

” width=Jena Perry (Screener Squad)

Jena Perry. Aka Luna. Aka Dion. Aka Memori. Aka Dog whisperer. Aka whiskey connoisseur. As you can see, depending on when you met this Oakland, California native, you have experienced a completely different person, each time. After finally deciding on a 13+year career choice as a Videographer and Radio Personality, Jena balances her time between pursuing her Doctorate in Philosophy, providing insightful and funny critiques on films and Television, raising her daughter and dog in Ohio, and constantly fighting off the existential dread that is being a dope black woman in America in the 20th century.
