The Medium Movie Review

THE MEDIUM MOVIE REVIEW

From director Banjong Pisanthanakun (“Shutter”) and producer Na Hong-jin (“The Wailing”) comes “The Medium”, a found footage horror movie about a documentary film crew following a shaman in the Isan region of Thailand. The shaman Nim is the latest woman in her family to be chosen as the medium for a benevolent local deity named Bayan. After the death of a relative, Nim’s niece Mink begins acting strangely. At first, Nim and her sister Noi think Bayan has chosen Mink as its new medium, and is transferring its spirit to the young woman. As the cameras roll, Mink’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic and frightening. Before long, the sisters begin to fear that it is an evil spirit, not Bayan, that is trying to possess Mink. Can the sisters put aside their differences and save the young woman’s soul? Will they discover the identity of the evil spirit possessing Mink? And will camera operators inexplicably continue shooting, even as they’re being viciously attacked? Our reviewers Drew, LeWayne and Marco aren’t the biggest fans of found footage movies, but they came away with an appreciation for what Banjong and his cast have accomplished

Lewayne White (Screener Squad)

Lewayne’s earliest memories are of watching movies and reading comics, which instilled in him a sense of wonder, a vivid imagination, and unrealistic expectations. It also means he spends a lot of time watching movies, writing scripts for them, and trying to get them made. He lives in the middle of middle America after landing there as a child, and has remained there mainly because he hates packing.
