Wander Darkly Movie Review

WANDER DARKLY MOVIE REVIEW

What would you say at the end of your days? That’s one of the many questions brought by “Wander Darkly”, the new surrealist drama starring Sienna Miller and Diego Luna as new parents Adrienne and Matteo. After a car accident, Adrienne finds herself outside of her body, assuming she is dead. She starts seeing moments from her life, but her reverie is halted by a memory version of Matteo who starts talking to her directly. Is she dead? Traumatic brain injury? Something else? Reviewers Alex, Davey, Matt Foster, and Rae do not go gentle into that good night as they attempt to find the core of this weird little movie and, if they’re lucky, make a few jokes along the way to stave off the existential dread.

Alex Sullivan (Screener Squad)

This Alex. He Shy.

Fascinated by the countless worlds that can be visited by simply pressing “Play”, Alex finds himself awash in an endless stream of titles. Whenever a particularly strange title strikes his fancy, he becomes an enamored prophet of this new idea, spreading its good word to whomever will listen. Alex constantly works to improve his fluency in the universal language of cinema. Underneath his mellow facade, he’s a chihuahua, shaking with excitement to be a part of such a wonderfully diverse and welcoming community of voices that share his enthusiasm.

Davey Peppers (Staff Writer, Audio and Video Editor, Screener Squad, Eye on the Prize)

Many words have been used to describe Davey Peppers. Words like “Eh” and “Please go outside, just once”. He studied film and advertising at Southern Illinois University – Carbondale, because two degrees in fields with terrible job placement is better than one, and currently runs the YouTube channel Game Mechanics. He is easily distracted by shiny things and even the most basic passing mention of a movie being sad. He can be found on Twitter as well as staring at a blank wall wondering what the point is, and if his spending so much time staring at walls is the reason he’s not funny.

Matt Foster (Screener Squad)

Matt Foster is a stand up comic, podcaster, and movie critic currently living in the greater Salt Lake City area. His lifelong love of genre film began early, when he realized they freaked out his mom. He performs (epidemics permitting) regularly on Dungeons and Comedy, a DND live play with standup comedians, and is the slightly less mustache-y half of the Nighthawks Podcast, a cinema-centric discussion cohosted by Trevor T. Trujillo.

Lyrae Anderson (Screener Squad)

You can call me Rae. You can also call me a film lover. I’ll watch it all — small screen; big screen, and everything in between. I have attended and worked for Fantastic Fest and South by Southwest for many years. I married a film geek as well. While we don’t agree on everything, we agree on our love of movies.
