Measure for Measure Movie Review

MEASURE FOR MEASURE MOVIE REVIEW

“Haste still pays haste, and leisure answers leisure,
Like doth quit like, and measure still for measure.”

Thus the stage is set for this latest adaption of the classic play by William Shakespeare. Set in modern day Australia, this film uses modern text (So breathe easy, CliffsNotes users.) to tell Shakespeare’s story from the eyes of star-crossed lovers: Claudio, an amateur musician, and Jaiwara, a Muslim from a very conservative family. As they struggle to be together, the two must face deadly xenophobia, violent prison stays, indecent proposals, and navigate their way around the center of the city’s criminal underworld. Who knew Shakespeare could write a gritty crime drama? Our own band of Lord Chamberlain’s Men, Mindy, Lewayne, Jordan, and Trevor, discuss if this film truly has greatness thrust upon it, or whether there was never a story of more woe.
