Screener Squad: Stargirl (DC)

Stargirl Season 1 Series Review

STARGIRL (DC) TV SERIES REVIEW

The first season of Stargirl has come to a close and it’s time to see if it truly reaches for the stars or if it needs to lose its stripes. Incorporating many elements from the initial arcs of Geoff Johns’ comic, the story takes place a decade after the greatest heroes in this particular universe, The Justice Society of America, have been killed off by the Injustice Society of America. High school student Courtney Whitmore (Brec Bassinger) is trying to adjust to her new life in Nebraska with her mother Barbara (Amy Smart), her step-father Pat Dugan (Luke Wilson), and her step-brother Mike Dugan (Trae Romano). Then one day, Courtney finds a crate in her basement containing the Cosmic Staff, the mythic weapon of the JSA hero Starman (Joel McHale). She also learns that Pat was Starman’s sidekick, who had hoped to put the superhero life behind him after witnessing the JSA’s demise. But the ISA is on the cusp of a comeback with a plot that could lead to dire consequences for the entire world. It falls upon Courtney, now going by the name Stargirl, to inspire the next generation of the JSA to thwart the villains and keep her family together.

From his own super headquarters in Idaho, Justin has called together the super trio of Neil, Rae, and Jordan to review this show with their super critic abilities. Is this worth subscribing to DC Universe to watch? How closely does it tie into the existing Arrowverse lore? Find out in our review.
