THE WILD GOOSE LAKE MOVIE REVIEW

While called “The Wild Goose Lake” in English, in Chinese, this movie’s title actually translates to “Meeting at South Train Station,” which might give a better sense of the tone this neo-noir portrays. After accidentally killing a cop, Zhou Zenong (Hu Ge) is met in a rainy train station by the mysterious Liu Aiai (Gwei Lun-mei). Together they try to outrun the police, local gang members, and sometimes each other to avoid the bounty placed on Zhou’s head. So heat up a bowl of noodles, put on a record of Boney M.’s “Rasputin,” and listen to Mindy, Adrian, Hunter, and Lewayne breakdown director Yi’nan Diao’s latest art film pretending to be a crime thriller.
