Screener Squad: I Know This Much Is True

I Know This Much Is True Miniseries Review

I KNOW THIS MUCH IS TRUE MINISERIES REVIEW

Mark Ruffalo plays twin brothers in HBO’s miniseries adaptation of Wally Lamb’s celebrated novel. It feels weird to use the word ‘celebrate’ to discuss something this unrelentingly dark, but that’s how it is. The brothers, Dom and Tom, are very different, and we see early on Tom is very disturbed, as he cuts off his own hand for hallucinatory but idealistic reasons. Dom is his brother’s keeper, as it were, and the heavy weight of it, and the loss of his child previously, beats him down; his life seems to be cracking its knuckles exclaiming, “I’m just gettin’ started”. Is it all connected to a curse laid on their grandfather? I mean, this isn’t by Anne Rice, so probably not, but what you do get is some of the best performances of the year, and not just by Ruffalo. Listen to Chris, Santiago, Brad, and Eliot discuss.
