GREED MOVIE REVIEW

Hey, Michael Winterbottom fans! I know you’re out there. Ok, how about Steve Coogan fans? Wait, ya’ll are probably the same people. I mean, they have done a number of films together and now we have Greed. Coogan plays a ridiculously wealthy fashion mogul who recently has been dealing with questions about the legality of his business decisions and decidedly having a problem with being viewed as the public as exactly what he actually is: a selfish, amoral, POS. So, he decides the best way to handle his 50th birthday is to have a hugely expensive party with big celebrities and a Roman Gladiatorial theme in Greece. Suffice it to say, this is not a great idea. David Mitchell plays the out-of-his-depth biographer of Coogan’s trying to find ways to not paint him as the garbage person he actually is and that certainly adds a large degree of awkward humor to the mix. But does the film find its balance between its socio-political aspirations and dry humor or is it as uncomfortable as watching Mitchell try to keep up with rich people? Chris, Marco, Sarah Jane, and Mindy are on the case.
