Screener Squad: For Sama

For Sama Movie Review

FOR SAMA MOVIE REVIEW

The Screener Squad got a chance to watch one of the nominees for Best Documentary at the Oscars with For Sama. The majority of the story follows Waad Al-Kateab, a young woman in Syria during the Syrian Civil War. Over the course of five years, we see her fall in love, give birth to her daughter Sama, and do her best to keep Sama safe as the fighting continues to escalate. Ultimately, she must decide if the best course is to flee to safety or stay to help the victims trapped in Aleppo. Justin, Marco, Paloma, and Julien have a lot of somber thoughts to discuss with this movie. It feels wrong to make a lead-in joke based on the subject matter, so just listen and hear what we think.
