The Chambermaid Movie Review

THE CHAMBERMAID (LA CAMARISTA) MOVIE REVIEW

The trend of Mexican films chronicling the lives of maids we’ve seen with Roma and Las Ninas Bein continues with The Chambermaid. Submitted as Mexico’s entry for the Best International Feature Oscar, the film follows a woman named Eve (Gabriela Cartol) as she works as a maid for one of Mexico’s most prestigious hotels. With a child at home she has to care for and a promotion within the hotel she desperately wants, we follow her as she handles the variety of guests she must put up with as well as the highs and lows of being in this line of work. Justin and Marco have been on a roll lately with reviewing international Oscar candidates, but they have yet to see serious contenders outside of the obvious ones like Parasite. Could this be a sleeper hit with Academy voters? Find out in this review.
