Director Lynn Ramsey may not be a household name yet but she sure is with critics who lavishly praised her films We Need to Talk About Kevin, Morvern Cellar, and Ratcatcher. Here she teams up with Joaquin Phoenix as a thoroughly broken hitman who, when he’s not taking care of his elderly mother with dementia, is given the task to rescue a senator’s daughter from an underage sex ring. Unfortunately for him, it turns out some big power players are involved and his rescue quickly lands him in hot water. File this one under horrific and beautiful visuals because if nothing else, this is one great-looking piece of cinema. Listen to Chris, Frank, and Miguel discuss it in their review.
