The day has come! The title for Star Wars Episode VIII is The Last Jedi.
Something that’s important to point out here is that Jedi is both a plural and a singular. In this new trilogy (will it only be three?) we know of at least three force sensitive persons: Luke Skywalker of course, Rey, and Kylo Ren/Ben Solo. Although not confirmed, Supreme Leader Snoke could very well be force sensitive also. Of course the final installment of the original trilogy promised us that the Jedi were now back, although there was only one. This new saga hints that Luke was training others but stopped after Ben became Ren. So the question is did Kylo kill all of the other padawans like his grandfather? Are there others out there hiding? Who knows (probably Kathleen Kennedy.)
Turning to a more somber issue, there is much debate about what will be done with General Leia Organa after Carrie Fisher’s tragic passing at only 60. There was apparently a crisis meeting between Colin Trevorrow, director of Episode IX, and Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, on what to do with Leia, who may have had a larger role in the third film. Although there were no details on what would be done with the character, Lucasfilm put out a statement saying that they would not be digitally recreating her, a move met with many sighs of relief.
With the Super Bowl just two weeks away, there’s a good chance we could be seeing our first trailer soon. Will it contain Darth Jar-Jar? Only time will tell.
