After a brief appearance in Captain America: Civil War, Tom Holland as Spider-Man appears in the long-awaited trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming. For the first time we’re introduced to a teenager superhero, already entwined into the greater narrative of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Set in Queens, New York, Spiderman: Homecoming follows Peter Parker (Tom Holland) as he maintains ordinary life as a high school student while still living as Spider-Man. Early in the trailer we’re delighted with Tony Stark telling Parker he has to learn and mature as anyone else despite his spot in the superhero ensemble. Michael Keaton takes on the role of Vulture, Parker’s villain, ensuring harm to his family in the event of further retaliation against him.
With a tongue-in-cheek outlook on the Marvel universe, Homecoming is hyping up to be the highest-regarded Spider-Man film since Sam Raimi’s Spiderman 2 (2004). Along with Holland, Downey Jr, and Keaton, we’re given Donald Glover (Atlanta), Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler), Zendaya (Disney’s Shake it Up), newcomer Jacob Batalon, and many more.
Spider-Man: Homecoming arrives July 17, 2017.
