Guardian’s of the Galaxy was Disney’s experiment to see if Marvel could make a movie with obscure characters and still make a profit. The film was also an introduction to the interstellar aspect of the Marvel cinematic universe. Guardians featured a simple plot about a group of criminals who became heroes who saved the galaxy. It starred Chris Pratt, Zoe Zaldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, and Dave Bautista. A huge critical and financial success, the prospect of a sequel was inevitable.
The first teaser for Guardians Vol. 2 was just under a minute and revealed little aside from a humorous bit with Peter Quill and Drax. The second trailer opens with an equally funny segment with Rocket, who appears to take on a exasperated parental role with Baby Groot. It’s incredibly cute and the humor, though a little obvious, works exceptionally well in brief scene. The teaser has a great energy throughout, and there are number of fun shots showcasing Baby Groot’s adorableness and Drax’s over-the-top weapon skills.
The marketing for Guardians Vol. 2 has been impressive so far, and with James Gunn at the film’s helm along with the most of the returning cast, there’s little reason not to be excited for the next installment in Marvel’s comedic sci-fi series.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will arrive in theatres May 5, 2017.
