Since Shallow Grave, Danny Boyle’s career has only gained momentum. With a slight dip in the limited release of Trance (2013), he jumped back with his Aaron Sorkin collaboration, Steve Jobs (2016), and has returned again with T2 Trainspotting. As the original was adapted from Irvine Welsh’s book of the same name, T2 is adapted from his sequel, Porno.
With the characters already established, we pick up twenty years later. Renton (Ewan McGregor) is clean and has (or at least seemingly, following the last moments of dialogue in the first film) has adapted to a “normal” life. Then the next minute-and-a-half show us everything but normalcy.
Irvine Welsh has given high praise of T2, calling it better than the original. Judging from the sensory overload and immediate adrenaline rush from every cut, this looks like a film that is worth anticipating.
T2 hits the UK on January 27, 2017 and the US on February 3, 2017.
