THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE

Director Nacho Vigalondo brings us his best film yet: Anne Hathaway plays a woman whose life has gone out of control because of alcohol abuse. Forced to return to her hometown, she takes a job at a bar run by an old acquaintance (Jason Sudeikis). And then she finds out she also unwittingly controls a giant monster that has been daily destroying South Korea.

THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS

Don’t check out of zombie films just yet, as this one has a surprising amount of heart and a more science fiction storyline to offer than you’d expect. The story follows a young girl who is also, when she gets too close to human skin, a zombie, but she’s not thrilled about it. Neither is the human team who have to accompany her to a safe zone. Paddy Considine, Gemma Arterton, and Glenn Close also star.

Iwo Ukwais teams up with the director of Killers and Macabre for the most bone-crunchingest, bad-ass, martial arts film of the year. Fans of the genre will definitely put this one on their ‘not to be missed’ list as the action can only be compared in style, talent, and brutality to Ukwais’ previous scenes in the The Raid films. And it’s pretty non-stop.

A MONSTER CALLS

Director J.A. Bayona (The Orphanage, The Impossible) tells this story of a young boy who has to come to terms with the impending death of his mother (Felicity Jones) and the need to form some sort of relationship with his grandmother (Sigourney Weaver). Fortunately he has a giant tree monster to tell him stories to help him grow into this difficult new situation. Believe it or not, this one will end up on a lot of critics’ best of the year lists.
