Deadpool Trailer #2 Reaction

  • by

Time to make the chimi-fucking-changas! Yes, the second official full-length trailer for Deadpool has arrived, and it appears to be just as violent, crass and over-the-top as the Merc with a Mouth himself. Directed by Tim Miller and written by Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese (Zombieland), Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Like the first trailer before it, Deadpool is selling itself as being something distinctly different from most cinematic superhero fare. Unlike the very serious trailer for Captain America: Civil War or the downright dower teasers for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Deadpool appears to be more concerned with advertising the fact that it’s an action comedy than anything else. Personally, I like this approach, and the focus on the film’s humor and hyper-violence is a great selling point to general audiences that might be craving more diversity within the superhero genre.

We get to see another humorous scene between Deadpool and his best friend, Weasel (T.J. Miller), who provides a brutally honest and hilarious assessment of Wade’s new look. My favorite interaction in the trailer is with Deadpool, Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), with Wilson himself acknowledging the existence of the X-Men and hinting at the fact that he’s had run-ins with them before. If I have one concern about the film at this point, it’s that Deadpool may wear out his welcome before the credits finally role. Though I certainly consider myself a fan of the character and his fourth wall breaking antics, he’s often used best in small does or as a supporting player.

Deadpool will talk its way into theatres February 12, 2016.
