Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer #3

Has anyone heard about some big sci-fi film coming out this December? I think most of us are probably uninformed about this seventh entry in a small franchise, the name of which escapes me. Star BattleGalactic WarsThe Foundation Trilogy? I don’t think I’m getting this right at all.

OK, enough kidding around. We all know what this is about. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is less than two months away and Disney has decided to finally release a third (and likely final) trailer for the seventh entry in the popular franchise. Director JJ Abrams is known for his inherent secrecy, given that the first two trailers were far more in line with teasers than anything else. With this third trailer however, we finally get more of a glimpse at what the basic story will entail. The trailer follows below;

The anticipation mounts, it does. We definitely got a solid feel for our new leads’ major character arcs, including Rey’s solitude, Finn trying to distance himself from his stormtrooper origins and Kylo Ren’s desire to carry on the legacy of Darth Vader. We get a few more glimpses of Leia, Han Solo and Chewy, but the focus is still on that legacy theme and giving these new characters the center of attention. Oddly, no sign of Luke Skywalker, though it’s likely part of director JJ Abram’s desire to keep secrets from the audience until it’s in context. Still, this gave us a bit more of a peek at narrative that we were missing from previous teasers and a much needed peek at that. It’s visually gorgeous, shows a nice potential for changing of the guard and stupendous use of John Williams’ classic themes. But we’ll have to see if that all applies to the film proper.

Also, in case you missed it, here’s the official poster that was released yesterday. It’s a shame it isn’t a Drew Struzan painted mosaic we fell in love with, but it’s clear that those who designed this photoshopped image took care to at least attempt to recreate the feel of one of those posters. Plus, it’s pretty top notch even for Photoshop.
