Trailer Reaction: Insidious 3 Trailer #2

Yet another trailer for Insidious: Chapter 3 has been released, hoping to convince and scare audiences that a prequel film can be the most terrifying installment in a horror franchise. Produced by Blumhouse Productions (Paranormal Activity, Sinister), the Insidious series has managed to earn an impressive box office winning streak, becoming one of the most lucrative horror franchises in the past few years.

The newest chapter in the horror series is written and directed by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell. This prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Stefanie Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.

I’ve actually never seen any of the Insidious films. Though I don’t exactly consider myself a fan of ghost and exorcism movies (I’m the guy that thinks The Exorcist is grossly overrated), I’d be the first to admit that this trailer has some suitably disturbing moments. Yes, the movie seems to fall prey to an overabundance of jump scares, but the scene that featured Scott and her amputated limbs gave me chills. In addition to the rather disturbing body horror, the ghosts/demons/monsters all have a unique look. You have your regular spirits clothed in your typical turn of the century garb and a particularly nasty looking ghost who might have been a burn victim. Also, Darth Maul seems to be hanging out in the background. Glad to see the guy is still getting work.

Insidious: Chapter 3 will be released in theatres June 5, 2015
