Trailer Reaction: Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer #3

As the summer draws ever closer, we’re all looking forward to the next big step in the Marvel Cinematic Universe Avengers: Age of Ultron, where we’ll see the return of the power team that is Iron Man, The Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Black Widow & Hawkeye, gaining new allies and fighting against the mechanical monstrosity of the titular Ultron. A brand new and supposedly final trailer for the film has just been released and boy… is it a doozy. And by “doozy”, I mean “giant roller coaster ride filled with so many amazing visuals that makes you wonder why you ever doubted they’d be able to top The Avengers.” The trailer follows below;

Yeah. There’s a lot going on here and it’s hard to find a place to start. Probably the most immediate thing is that the trailer really does manage to establish just how much of a full on threat Ultron is as a villain. Before, we’ve merely had glimpses at his powers of intimidation, but now we see just what he’s capable of. Right from the start, we’re given a window into Ultron’s mind as he forms the elaborate machinations on humanity that will likely result in horrendous destruction that promises to put the Marvel Cinematic Universe into a state of chaos. We even finally manage to get a grasp on Ultron’s scale as he towers several feet above the average Avengers member. Of course, it always helps to have James Spader’s cold and calculating narration giving everyone watching the trailer a shiver down their collective spines to help sell the mechanical evil of Ultron.

From there, we get a glance at the subsequent destruction, regret and quips that we’ve come to expect from an MCU film, though with a darker edge. Now, when I say “darker”, it’s not in the DC Comics Films “no jokes policy” kind of way. This is the kind of “darker” we’ve seen hinted at in the earlier films of Phase 2 where our heroes experienced a serious shake up in their lives after the events of the first film, whether it’s building an army of robotic suits in Iron Man 3 or facing off against their long lost best friends turned cyborg assassin in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. These are heroes who have already dealt with a lot and have a cockiness about them that could either be their saving grace or their downfall in battle as they clearly don’t seem fully prepared for what lies ahead when facing against a threat this large. It’s especially rough when what lies ahead includes the extreme speeds of Quicksilver, the earth shattering screams of Scarlett Witch and the ominous power of Vision, all of whom get some amount of screentime in this trailer.

So what are we most excited by in this trailer for Avengers Age of Ultron? What is the brief glimpse of Vision? Was it that sweet shot of all The Avengers storming into battle? Post your thoughts on the comments below.
