Welcome to the first edition of The Pre-Weekend Recap of 2014! After a jam-packed holiday season, you’re probably looking for a way to relax this weekend. In addition, many of you will likely be snowed in by Snowstorm Hercules in the next few days, so you’re not going anywhere. Now that the family’s gone and you’re essentially trapped in your house, you have plenty of time to catch up on some of the blogs, podcasts, and other features that debuted on the site this week. Our newest feature, In Defense Of, is the brainchild of Mr Chris Harrison. In this series, Chris serves as the advocate for much-maligned films, video games, and other properties unloved by the geek community. Of course, the opinions of the INTERN-Net, our ragtag crew of volunteer writers, are much more important than those of the nameless. faceless members of the Academy. If anyone is ready to take on the new year, it’s the buddy cops of geekery, Ash and Fern. The latest entries in these ladies’ featured blog includes a list of the goals they seek to achieve in 2014. They have a lot of things they want to accomplish this year, such as learning to count cards, getting a better handle on technology, and personally getting the U.S. Men’s Soccer team through the World Cup in one piece. They’re certainly an ambitious duo, so give their list a look and cheer them on throughout the year in future posts!

 

Inside The Locker: Retiring 2013

Your favorite locker rats have returned to bid adieu to 2013 and look forward to the future. Brian, JC, and Elliott are joined by Brian’s brother Blake to talk about the NFL playoffs,  update you on the College Bowl games, and talk about all of their favorite things from the last year. Also, they’re giving away a free copy of the second volume of ESPN’s 30 For 30 documentary series to one lucky winner and there is no reason why it can’t be you!
