‘Trick ‘R Treat 2’ Will Be Ringing Doorbells After All?

‘Tis the season – seems only fitting that this week, the week of Halloween, the potential news of a sequel to what is likely my absolute favorite modern Halloween film currently hits the light of day. Anyone familiar with the turmoil surrounding the eventual release of Michael Dougherty’s Trick ‘r Treat knows that the film sat on the shelf entirely too long, especially considering how awesome of an opportunity it would have been to release something like it in the month of October. However, it sat collecting dust after a slew of successful film fest screenings, barely even got a limited theatrical release and was dumped to DVD where it quickly gained a cult following.

It remained unlikely that a sequel would ever see the light of day given how it was treated, but its popularity after hitting DVD seems to have awoken the powers that be and in a special screening of the film in LA with Bryan Singer, Michael Dougherty and stars in attendance were questioned in a Q&A following the filmabout the possibility of a sequel, but initially shrugged it off. In a glorious twist of fate after a Legendary exec cut through the crowd by announcing a sequel should be made, the screen revealed a Trick ‘r Treat 2 logo.

Dougherty was later interviewed and could only reveal that the film was still in very early stages so there weren’t many details to extract besides the logo and the fact that Dougherty would indeed be returning to direct. This news has me beyond excited seeing as how I religiously watch the first Trick ‘r Treat every Halloween, plus whenever the mood strikes. I’d say it’s a pretty safe bet that the film will have a similar structure as the first with a bunch of shorts that all connect in some way or another around the spirit of Halloween, Sam, the creepy hooded figure seen trick or treating throughout the film making sure people obey the rules of Halloween.

Hopefully, since the first film gained such a following on DVD history will not repeat itself and we can all head out on Halloween to see the sequel on the big screen. I for one will have my butt planted firmly in a seat when the day comes. Legendary went ahead and posted the shot of the logo reveal on twitter which you can see below or follow the links to Legendary’s Twitter page!
