The Doom Patrol Assembles! This week is the first half of our discussion about the films adapted from Stephen King novels. But we’re not taking the easy way through. No sir. Everybody has already talked about the GOOD ones to death. You know, The Shining, Misery, etc. We give our lip service to his horror films maybe you don’t hear as much about anymore.

This is just part one so we prelude with a bit of a discussion about The Summers Brothers trip to present their horror short Couples Night at the Fantasia film festival and then lead into the bigger topic talking a bit about the disappointment that was The Dark Tower and anticipation for IT. And hilarity ensues.

Born in the wilds of northern Virginia, in 1992 Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas, where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar management. An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free, by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal”, turned into a full time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. They built the site, adding multiple podcasts and animated features, to no small amount of success. During this time, a fortuitous friendship sprung up between Chris and young Brian Salisbury, who was also a local film critic, and they merged their forces of will, and their laundry list of ideas for shows, to eventually build this paradise you see before you.

I am super into The Mist right now as well. Though nobody I know is watching it.

Kinda like the idea of a TV series about “The Shop” chasing different people around the country… but then wouldn’t that make “The Shop” the protagonists? You could do a show where it’s an investigator is looking in to reports of paranormal activity and keeps find clues about “The Shop”, but then it would turn into a remake of “The Invaders” or “Kolchak the Night Stalker”.

I like the idea of people working FOR The Shop, not realizing how evil the company is, and slowly coming to grips with the fact they’re bad and trying to take them down from the inside while still having to do their day-to-day (or probably more like night-to-night) dealing with monsters of the week.

Interesting… or maybe “The Shop” isn’t really an evil organization, just one willing to do terrible things to people “for the greater good”… something like DC’s Amanda Waller would have been involved with…

I like all these ideas and I’m stealing them.
