No one expected James Wan’s The Conjuring to be the blockbuster that it was. Let’s face it: American big studio produced horror is all too rarely any good. But, you know any big studio produced horror that’s a hit is going to become a franchise. That’s generally not so great either. But Wan, after initially turning down the director spot for the sequel, changed his mind and came on board to protect his baby. And thank goodness he did. Chris, Beau and JC tell you all about it.

Born in the wilds of northern Virginia, in 1992 Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas, where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar management. An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free, by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal”, turned into a full time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. They built the site Spill.com, adding multiple podcasts and animated features, to no small amount of success. During this time, a fortuitous friendship sprung up between Chris and young Brian Salisbury, who was also a local film critic, and they merged their forces of will, and their laundry list of ideas for shows, to eventually build this paradise you see before you.

JC and Chris, if you’re thinking about Dead Silence, that was Wan’s SECOND puppet movie, his first one was Saw.

You’re right. I think I knew that, but I was mostly responding to Chris not having seen Dead Silence.

      Dead Silence was ass though….

  • I love The Conjuring 2. The first movie was really good, but James Wan really outdid himself for me with the sequel. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga were both great, Madison Wolfe was also great, I thought the story was really well done, and I even found Conjuring 2 to be scarier than the first (Seriously, that Nun freaked me out in ways that most horror films usually don’t and I’m a horror-movie fan myself).
