The year is 1977. Unlikely circumstances throw together a alien rock star (Beau), a redneck master mechanic (Chris), a gonzo journalist (Joe), an scientist with secret knowledge of alien technology (Ashley) and a sleuth posing as a glam rock star (Sara). Together they will combine their special skills to, um, well…even I’m not entirely sure. But I do know this: playing Spirit of 77 is one of the most fun times yet we’ve had doing a Randy Plays Games episode. Check out part one right now!

Born in the wilds of northern Virginia, in 1992 Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas, where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar management. An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free, by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal”, turned into a full time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. They built the site Spill.com, adding multiple podcasts and animated features, to no small amount of success. During this time, a fortuitous friendship sprung up between Chris and young Brian Salisbury, who was also a local film critic, and they merged their forces of will, and their laundry list of ideas for shows, to eventually build this paradise you see before you.

Wow 1977! The year in which everybody fell in love with Roger Moore’s James Bond.

Chris is playing a redneck? Well he is from West Virginia.

This game needs a character who calls everybody a Honkey, and that character (who maybe be white or black, but he is a white guy who thinks is a black guy) should be play by Jason Murphy.

    • Beau

That kind of thing can get real tricky with an audio only format.

        But it is Jason.

        • Beau

Well, yeah..but we do try to pick up new listeners that wouldn’t necessarily get the joke.

I was just playing around with that whole Jason thing, and you guys are funny in the game.

There was an actual play of this game I listened to that was very funny and it had a army of Dallas cowboy cheerleaders, Colonel Sanders, and a magic flute pill popping glam rocking Adonis. Oh yeah! it’s on the freaking love boat!
